Danny Uchechi: Sone Aluko helped persuade me to join Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s new striker Danny Uchechi admits he should have joined the Dons in the summer rather than try to win a deal in England.

The Nigerian attacker sealed a deadline day switch to the Granite City from FC Dender for six months with the option of a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old was brought to the attention of Craig Brown in the summer but the player ended up joining League One side Sheffield Wednesday instead.

And he revealed he spoke to former Don Sone Aluko before making the move to the north-east.

Speaking about the Rangers player’s contribution to his move he said: “He (Aluko) only had good things to say about the Dons because without a doubt Aberdeen helped Sone improve as a player and get to where he is. When the club contacted me I spoke to him because we’ve been friends for quite a while now and he said good things about the club, the players and people.

“I can say my decision was influenced by his opinion.”

When asked whether he regretted not moving to the SPL sooner he added:

“I wouldn’t say it was a difficult decision because I was meant to be here last summer but things happened and I ended up joining Sheffield Wednesday.

“The people at the club are really nice and the players are nice too so everyone has been helpful and great and it wasn’t that hard.”

On the type of player the Aberdeen fans can expect, Uchechi added: “I’m someone who likes taking on people and attacking and hopefully with the help of the players and management team here then I can learn more and improve my game.
