Paul Sheerin says Arbroath’s draw at Celtic Park is a career highlight

Arbroath player/manager Paul Sheerin says his team’s Scottish Cup draw with Celtic eclipses his victory at Parkhead with Inverness Caledonian Thistle in February, 2000.

The 38-year-old was part of the team which ran out 3-1 winners in the competition when the Highlanders were in the First Division.

However he believes his achievement with the Second Division side tops that night.

He said: "Obviously I was fortunate enough to be involved as a player at Inverness a few years ago - and it feels a few years now, that's for sure.

"But this probably outweighs what we did with Inverness, we were a full-time football club.

"To come to the Scottish champions with a part-time club, training four hours per week and get a result, as we have done, is up there with the best from a personal point of view, that's for sure."

The club's players headed to Newcastle for their Christmas night out after the match and Sheerin was sure everyone connected with the club could enjoy their hard-work.

"What I did say at half-time was stay disciplined and stay in the game as long as we can," he said.

"But I am not daft. I know we were well dominated and our keeper was outstanding but I knew we would get a chance somewhere along the line.

"Granted, it came from a deflection but as a part-time club, to get a result here in any manner is incredible.

"I am absolutely delighted for the supporters and hopefully they enjoy their night."
