Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon will be released by Sunderland at the expiry of his contract.
The 40-times capped goalkeeper is one of nine players who will not have their contracts renewed ahead of the new season at the Stadium of Light, and will be looking for new employers next term.
Gordon, 29, made almost 100 appearances for Sunderland since joining the club from Hearts in 2007 for £9,000,000; then a British record fee for a goalkeeper.
The Edinburgh-born goalkeeper went on to become the first choice at the Stadium of Light, turning in a series of fine performances. His save from Zat Knight in the 1-0 win over Bolton in December 2010 was recently selected as the greatest stop in the 20 years of the Premier League.
However, injuries to his knee and cruciate ligaments have hampered his ability to hold down the number one jersey at Sunderland and this season he lost his place in the lineup to Simon Mignolet.
The player's contract runs until June 30, after which he will be free to join another club. Celtic have been strongly linked with a move for the Scotland international.
