Aberdeen new boy Niall McGinn wants his career with the Dons to get off to flier against his old team on Saturday.
The Northern Irish winger made the move from Celtic Park to Pittodrie this summer and has played a big part in Craig Brown’s team’s encouraging pre-season form.
The first competitive test for the Dons comes against McGinn’s former team-mates in the SPL curtain raiser, but he insists he has nothing to prove on his return to Glasgow.
Speaking to the Daily Record, McGinn said: “I enjoyed my time there but I’m a professional and I’m not going to be trying to prove anything to anyone.
“It couldn’t have worked out much better than getting Celtic away in my first game. It will be nice to go to Parkhead and see all the boys again but my main concern is Aberdeen as I play for them now.”
“I want to do well in an Aberdeen shirt. We’ve got a good squad of players and we showed against Bremen and St Pauli we can compete at the highest level.
“If we can get some consistency, who knows? There’s no reason why we can’t challenge for a European place.”
