The SPL season finally gets underway this weekend, after a long summer of off-the-field issues, and it's only right that we look at something suited to the first match of the term.

This week we are looking at the players who have managed to score for two different clubs on the opening day of an SPL season.

The list is surprisingly long, perhaps testament to how often players move clubs in the Scottish top-flight. There are 12 individuals who have managed this feat, and as you'll see, some are more obvious than others!

So, the list...

Anthony Stokes

Celtic's Irish striker scored on the opening day of 2010/11 for Hibernian, and was amongst the goals a year later when he scored for The Hoops at the start of 2011/12.

Barry Nicholson

Scotland international Nicholson scored on match-day one for Dunfermline in 2001/02, and also found the net on the first day of 2005/06 for Aberdeen, in a 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

Barry Robson

One of Canada's newest recruits, Robson scored on the first day for Dundee United in 2006/07 and again for Celtic in 2008/09.

Brian Kerr

The former Newcastle man is now at Arbroath, but scored twice on opening day. He scored for Motherwell in 2005/06 and for Hibernian in 2007/08.

Dirk Lehmann

The first real curve-ball (and congratulations to Scott McClymont for getting it right!). The German striker scored on the opening day of Hibs' 1999/00 season and for Motherwell in 2002/03.

Jim Hamilton

Waaaay! Of course, it wouldn't be a day of SPL trivia without Mr Hamilton. Of course, he scored for three clubs on opening day: Hearts (1998), Dundee United (2001) and Motherwell (2005).

John Sutton

The Hearts striker could yet add a third club to his list of opening day goals, having already scored for St Mirren (06/07) and Motherwell (2010/11).

Pat Nevin

Hands up who managed to get this one? The pundit had a fleeting SPL career, but still managed opening-day goals in both 1998 and 1999 for Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

Paul Hartley

The Alloa boss scored on the first day of the season for Hearts in 2005, but had his best opening in 2010, when he scored a hat-trick for Aberdeen in a 4-0 win over Hamilton.

Russell Latapy

The Trinidad and Tobago playmaker scored twice for Falkirk on opening day, in both 2006 and 2007. He also scored for Rangers in 2001.

Scott McDonald

Australia's Scott McDonald scored on the opening day of Motherwell's season in 2005, and again for Celtic in 2009.

Steven Naismith

Everton's newest Scottish addition is something of a debut-day specialist. He scored for Kilmarnock on the opening day of 2006, and for Rangers in each of the last three seasons (2009, 2010, 2011).
