Keen to move: Emir Kujovic has waxed lyrical about Celtic as he bids to secure a move.

Swedish starlet Emir Kujovic has talked up his chances of a move to Celtic, after his agent revealed that a Scottish club had made an offer to his club Halmstad. The 21-year-old attacking striker is considered as one of Scandinavian football’s leading lights and has been attracting interest from across Europe.

The 6ft 4in striker, who has been compared to Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko in his style of play and because of their similar heights, is the latest in a long line of Scandinavian talents noticed by the Parkhead club. The Hoops have already recruited Morten Rasmussen, Thomas Rogne and Jos Hooiveld from the region and could recruit the player as a replacement for Scott McDonald, who has been linked with a move to England.

With only three days remaining in the January transfer window, Kujovic has expressed his interest in following those players to the SPL, but says it is up to his club whether the move will go ahead.

“It is a great club, a top club with merit from the Champions League,” said Kujovic. “The club has great fans and a great history.

“But, again, the next few days will be crucial as the transfer window closing shortly. I know the interest, and what I've heard they have made a bid to Halmstad. It's up to Halmstad, if they want to sell me.”

Rangers had been linked with a move for the towering forward, but their manager Walter Smith said on Friday that he was in the market for a wide player, all but ruling out a possible move for Kujovic.

His agent, Oliver Cabrera, confirmed on Friday that an offer had been made for his client from Scotland that Kujovic was happy with. A move then looks on the cards for the player, dependent on a transfer fee being agreed.

"I can confirm that there has been an offer placed from Scotland on Emir," his agent Oliver Cabrera told Fotbollskanalen on Friday. "The offer is interesting and Emir is pleased. Now it is up to the clubs to agree on a transfer sum then we will see what happens."

Wolfsburg had been linked with a move for Kujovic to link him up with Dzeko earlier in the January transfer window, but a firm offer never materialised from the Bundesliga club. Serie A side Lazio were also linked with taking him to Italy, but it now seems his next move will be to Scotland.

Kujovic, who was born in Montenegro but has represented Sweden at various youth levels, has also talked down his comparisons with Dzeko and other footballers, saying he would prefer to make a name for himself.

“Am I the new Dzeko? I do not know, I prefer to say that I am the new Emir Kujovic,” he said. “In Sweden, I used to be compared with Johan Elmander but I want everyone to know me for who I am.”
