Robbie Keane is set to start for Celtic in their crucial Old Firm clash with Rangers at Ibrox today.
The on-loan striker looked doubtful after suffering a suspected leg injury and was kept out of training this week. But the Republic of Ireland international completed a training session at Lennoxtown on Saturday morning and only an overnight reaction would stop him lining up against the Gers.
Celtic manager Tony Mowbray is eager to have his star striker fit for the game.
“We’ve got to hope he is going to be fit because he is an influential voice in the dressing room,” Mowbray told The News of the World.
“While the manager and the coaches can have a rant, sometimes an experienced voice coming from within your own group can be more inspiring at time. Let’s hope he is in the huddle come half past 12.”
Should Keane be unfit for the match, Mowbray remains confident in his other strikers, but insists the SPL’s highest paid player is first choice.
“There are other options there for us and Georgios Samaras and Marc-Antoine Fortune have done well, but let’s hope Keane is fine when he gets up on the morning of the game.”
A victory over Rangers would be a major boost for Celtic and a step closer to catching-up on their Glasgow rivals who are currently sitting seven points ahead with a game in hand.
