Artur Boruc has completed his move to Fiorentina after completing a medical at the Italian club. The goalkeeper has signed a two-year contract, with Celtic receiving a transfer fee in the region of £1.7 million.

A statement from the Serie A side read: "Fiorentina announces it has completed the permanent transfer of Artur Boruc after a successful medical from Glasgow Celtic."

Boruc agreed a move to the Serie A side on Monday, after being withdrawn from Celtic’s squad that was travelling to the USA. The Polish keeper had 12 months left on his contract at Celtic and had been repeatedly linked with a move away from the club.

LATEST CELTIC NEWS

Boruc leaves Scotland having made 220 appearances for Celtic in five years, during which he won three SPL titles, two League Cups and one Scottish Cup winner's medal.

The 30-year old will now join up with his new team-mates at their training camp at Cortina d’Ampezzo to prepare for the new season, where he will be hoping to challenge for the number one jersey in the Viola’s team.

The current incumbent, Sebastien Frey was thought to be on the verge of quitting the club but it now looks as if he will be staying at Fiorentina for the coming season. Boruc will face a tough task to dislodge the former Parma and Inter player.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon said that it made sense to allow the player to move as they could have missed out on a transfer fee if he had seen out his deal at Parkhead. He now has only two goalkeepers in his first team squad and both Lukasz Zaluska and Dominic Cervi have travelled to North America.

Lennon has confirmed that he will be looking to recruit another keeper to maintain competition for a starting place.

“The club have intimated any money coming in will be reinvested in the squad,” he said.

"We have to look for a keeper now as well. I have a couple of targets in mind on that score.

"Lukasz has done very well and was impressive at the end of the season. He wants to be number one and there's a bit of hunger about him [but] we still need competition there.”
