Cillian Sheridan has returned to Ireland from Bulgaria to consider CSKA Sofia’s transfer offer. The Republic of Ireland international has reportedly been offered a three-year deal to move from Celtic to the Europa League participants and visited the country at the weekend.
Sheridan took in CSKA’s derby match against Levski having flown to Bulgaria with his parents and, despite leaving the country without concluding a deal, said he was already happy with his impending move.
“I came over to see what the club was like and whether I liked it,” Sheridan told Sky Sports. “I am looking forward to being here.
“I know next to nothing about CSKA although I watched them play Fulham and Roma in Europe last year and they looked good.”
CSKA have been courting Sheridan’s services for several weeks but have been made to wait to get their man. The Republic of Ireland international was included in Celtic’s party for their tour of North America and was also in their travelling party for the 3-0 loss to Braga in the Champions League last week.
Sheridan moved to Scotland in 2006, making his debut soon after his switch and marking his first appearance by setting up Kenny Miller for the winner in a Scottish Cup game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
CILLIAN SHERIDAN ON VERGE OF BULGARIAN MOVE
But, as Gordon Strachan, Tony Mowbray and now Neil Lennon elected to bring in numerous strikers from elsewhere, Sheridan found first team opportunities hard to come by. He played just 19 times for Celtic, his time with the club punctuated by loan spells at Motherwell, Plymouth Argyle and latterly St Johnstone.
CSKA Sofia are participating in this season’s Europa League and lead Northern Irish side Cliftonville 3-0 on aggregate in the third qualifying round. Should they progress to the play-off round stage, Sheridan would be eligible to play in Europe, having sat out Celtic’s 3-0 loss to Braga in the Champions League qualifiers last week.
