Spartak Moscow expect to hear from Aiden McGeady in the coming days whether or not he will leave Celtic for Moscow. The Republic of Ireland international has been in Russia holding talks with the capital club, after an offer – believed to be in the region of £9.5 million – was accepted.
McGeady, who is expected to return to Glasgow on Thursday afternoon as he considers his future, was shown around Spartak’s stadium and training facilities on Wednesday.
“As you know, he has been in Moscow and has seen the city,” Spartak’s technical director Dmitri Popov told Bobsoccer.ru. “But in the coming days, McGeady must decide.
“I don’t know who he will consult but I can safely say the football version of The Forsyte Saga will be completed soon.”
McGeady was shown around Moscow as the city battles with an extreme heat wave, which has sparked forest fires in the regions surrounding the city. As locals deal with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, a choking smog has covered the city centre.
Fearing the Celtic player may be discouraged by the freak conditions, Popov said he spoke with McGeady to explain it was a rare occurrence. “We explained to him that such weather happens once every 130 years,” he said. “So we told McGeady he could even call himself lucky, he witnessed a unique phenomenon."
AIDEN MCGEADY FLIES TO RUSSIA
On the football side of things, Spartak coach Valery Karpin remained impassive about the potential transfer when questioned on Wednesday, denying he had met McGeady during his visit.
“I haven’t spoken to him,” said Karpin, who when asked if he had any comment to make on knowledge the player was in Moscow replied: “So what? Many people come to Moscow. I do not know if he is here.”
If McGeady agrees to swap Glasgow for Moscow, Sport Express report McGeady would be given a luxury apartment by Spartak, on top of wages of £40,000 a week. Additionally, the player would be given his own chauffer and translator, as well as two chefs dedicated to his own diet.
