Efe Ambrose hopeful of shock Celtic debut after gaining work permit

Efe Ambrose is harbouring hopes of being thrown in to Celtic's side for their Champions League opener with Benfica.

The Nigerian defender was granted his work permit on Monday and returned to Israel to collect his belongings before heading for Glasgow.

Ambrose only arrived in Scotland on Tuesday afternoon but the £1.2m signing from Ashdod remains optimistic of being pitched straight into the action 24 hours later.

"It is up to the coach," Ambrose told STV upon his arrival. "For me it would be a great opportunity to play my first game.

"But the coach knows best. If he feels I am right to play, I will give all I have for the team."

Ambrose had been given an endorsement by the Scottish FA prior to the close of the transfer window but the international break slowed down the process of gaining his work permit.

The 23-year-old had to fly to Turkey for paperwork to complete the process with the UK Border Agency, before receiving the final confirmation from officials in Tel Aviv.

Celtic have also been boosted with the news that Georgios Samaras and Beram Kayal both trained with the full squad at Lennoxtown ahead of tomorrow's match.
