Celtic defender Adam Matthews has said that he would "definitely" sign a new contract with the Parkhead club.

Manager Neil Lennon said on Thursday that several players, including Matthews, would be offered extended deals after impressing in recent months and the Welsh defender said he would have no hesitation in committing his future to the club.

"The club has been great to me and I really enjoy being here so if I am offered a new deal I will happily sign, definitely," he said.

"The club is massive.

"Champions League is one of the main things, obviously, but the fans are brilliant and it is an honour to play in front of them every week so I am happy to stay."

After a trip to Motherwell on Saturday, Celtic travel to Moscow to face Spartak on Champions League duty next week. Matthews said that while European nights were huge occasions, they weren't the only factor in keeping him content.

"Every player wants to play in the Champions League but I think even without it Celtic are a massive club, so I am happy here," he said.

"The atmosphere against Benfica (last week) was probably one of the best - alongside an Old Firm game - that I have played in.

"It was great be a part of that so I am looking forward to the rest of the campaign."
