Emilio Izaguirre made his debut for Celtic in the 1-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park and earned rave reviews from his manager. Celtic boss Neil Lennon watched his side bounce back from their Euro nightmare courtesy of a goal from Daryl Murphy but had no doubt about who the star of the show was.

“I thought Izaguirre`s debut was tremendous," Lennon told the BBC.

"He was fantastic, I don`t think he put a foot wrong all day. He was so composed and defended really well.

"His English isn`t great so communication is a bit of a problem but he can play football. I thought he added an extra dimension to the back four."

The Honduran left back was making his first appearance in a Celtic jersey following his move from Montagua . Slotting in at left-back, the World Cup defender put in a shift that saw Motherwell boss Craig Brown compare him to Brazilian great Roberto Carlos.

Though Izaguirre caught the eye, the match was settled by a penalty, scored by Daryl Murphy on his first start in green and white. Despite grabbing a goal, Murphy will face competition for a starting spot after Lennon confirmed he was still in the hunt to sign another forward.

Marc-Antoine Fortune left Celtic to return to West Bromwich Albion on Friday, Morten Rasmussen is out on loan and new signing Gary Hooper is out for more than a month through injury. That has prompted the Celtic manager to go on the hunt for another goalscorer and the club have opened talks with Hibernian over Anthony Stokes.

"He`s an option for us, we have a couple of other options,” the Celtic manager said.

"With Hooper being injured, we just need a wee box player or goalscorer. Anthony certainly fits into that category.

"Whether we can get over the line, I don`t know, I`ll find out more on Monday."
