The 2014/15 Scottish Premiership will kick on Saturday August 9, a week later than the 2013/14 season did, STV understands.

This season's fixtures got underway on the first weekend of the month, with fixtures spread between Friday, August 2, Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4.

Partick Thistle kicked off the campaign at home to Dundee United, with Aberdeen facing Kilmarnock, Inverness playing St Mirren, Celtic playing Ross County on the Saturday.

St Johnstone played Hearts and Motherwell faced Hibernian on the Sunday.

Next season will start a week later, giving players returning from the World Cup extra recuperation time.

As many as 11 of the current Scottish Premiership players could be part of proceedings in Brazil.

Champions Celtic have announced that they will face Bayer Leverkusen on August 2, but this will be a pre-season fixture, rather than Celtic opting to exercise their right to postpone a fixture in the second week of the campaign.

Fixtures for the opening weekend of the campaign will likely be released mid-June.
