Gary Hooper hopes Celtic boss Neil Lennon will give his partnership with Anthony Stokes a longer run-out, after the pair combined to sink St Mirren.

Hooper scored both of the Glasgow side’s goals in their 2-0 victory in Paisley, combining well with Stokes particularly in the opening exchanges.

Stokes though has often found himself relegated to the bench for Celtic’s big matches and Hooper has urged his manager to keep the pair together.

“We score goals and we got 50-plus between us last season,” said Hooper. “We know what to do so it's a good partnership.

“We linked up for the first goal and I finished it okay and at the second goal he pressed well.

“Maybe we are guessing, I don't know - but we are on the same wavelength, we are similar players and we like to score goals.

“Most of the time we are on the same side at training so we do it in training but the main thing is doing it in the games and it has been working well.”

Hooper netted both of his team's goals early on in their win at St Mirren, with Stokes setting his strike partner up for the opener after six minutes.
