STV has learned that Celtic will take a look at James McFadden in training over the next few days while considering whether to make him a formal contract offer.
Talks have already taken place about the potential of the Scotland international, who is a free agent, making a move to Parkhead. Now, the 28-year old will join the Celtic players at their Lennoxtown training complex before a decision about his future is made.
McFadden has not played a competitive club match since damaging his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Birmingham in September 2010.
A lengthy absence meant that the Midlands club did not pick up a two year option on his contract, though they did offer him reduced terms, and the 48-times capped international has been looking for a new club since the summer.
The free agent has recently been on trial at English Premier League side Wolves and had been linked with moves to West Ham or Everton.
