Celtic striker Mohamed Bangura faces an extended spell on the sidelines after a fresh knee injury.

The forward has suffered persistent injury problems since joining Celtic last summer and will now see a specialist about the recurring complaint.

Celtic confirmed the news on their official website along with news on other injured players at the club. A report revealed that Bangura had “tweaked” his knee and will now seek advice before learning how long he will be out of the first team picture.

The Sierra Leone international moved to Parkhead from AIK Stockholm at the end of the August transfer window and made nine appearances before suffering a knee injury.

In November, manager Neil Lennon revealed that a problem with the player’s meniscus may require surgery but Bangura responded to treatment and returned to the squad after a month out.

The striker made substitute appearances in four matches during December but has not been in the first team yet this year.

There was good news for Lennon after Daniel Majstorovic was declared fit to be part of the squad for the League Cup semi-final against Falkirk on Sunday. In addition, Mark Wilson came through a bounce game successfully after almost three months out.

Mikael Lustig and Paddy McCourt have also returned to training after short spells out with minor injuries.
