Second-placed Arbroath have problems in the centre of defence for the visit of Dumbarton in third.
Craig Wedderburn is suspended and Stuart Malcolm and Chris Innes are injury doubts.
Striker Jordan Elfverson misses out again with a back injury.
Manager Paul Sheerin wants his side to get back to winning ways after two draws on their home patch.
Sheerin said: "Our home form has hurt us recently but we have the chance to put that right by beating Dumbarton.
"They are usually high-scoring matches when we get together and hopefully this one will be, but we get one more than them.
"Cowdenbeath are in the driving seat but we need to win games and see where it takes us."
Dumbarton have added former Inverness and St Mirren striker Craig Dargo to their ranks.
Midfielder Ryan Borris has joined Stranraer while on-loan St Mirren youngster Mark Lamont is struggling with an Achilles problem.
The Sons lost for the first time in 2012 when leaders Cowdenbeath beat them in midweek, and boss Alan Adamson is looking for his men to bounce back straight away.
"We had been on a great run but it is over now so we will just look to start a new good run," he said.
"The three games with Arbroath this season have been great with 19 goals in them and hopefully this one will be as well."
