Jon Daly believes Dynamo Moscow will get more than they bargained for when they face Dundee United in Thursday’s third qualifying round Europa League tie at Tannadice.
According to the United boss, Peter Houston the Russian side have adopted a laidback approach to scouting, claiming nobody from Moscow has travelled to Tayside to survey the opposition ahead of this week’s match.
However, Daly, who will skipper his side, has warned Dynamo Moscow not to underestimate the Scots.
Speaking to the Daily Record he said: “You can’t take anyone lightly in football regardless of what level you’re playing at. If you do that then you’re always likely to get stung.”
“If that’s the way they’re going to approach the game then that’ll suit us down to the ground. We’ll catch them by surprise if that’s so. “
United will take experience of their two recent European failures, against AEK Athens and Slask Wroclaw, into Thursday’s game and Daly believes those efforts will stand them in good stead.
“Hopefully we can get the result we’re after. It kind of takes the pressure off being the underdogs.
“In the past couple of seasons, we’ve gone in with very high expectations and I’m not saying we don’t have expectations this time. But it is slightly different. That’s because we’ve drawn such a big side but we believe in ourselves that we are capable of getting the right result.”
