Cameron Stewart could become the next English-born player to switch his international allegiances to Scotland.

The Hull City winger has been approached by national coach Craig Levein over making the change, despite having turned down the chance to play for Scotland’s Under-17s back in 2008.

Stewart, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, has since gone on to play for England from Under-17 though to Under-20 level. But Levein says the 20-year-old is open to playing for the country his mother was born in.

"We have spoken to Cameron," Levein told the Scottish Sun. "Mick Oliver [Scotland team scout] has done a lot of the work and we're keeping an eye on him.

"There's an ongoing dialogue. It's just a matter of watching him and seeing how he's doing. He's made us aware he'd be interested.

"Cameron's playing regularly for Hull, but he had an injury when he was out for a long time. We're just monitoring him right now, but he's definitely one we know about."

Stewart is free to switch to Scotland, despite his appearances for England at youth level.

The player moved to Hull from Manchester United in January 2011, having previously spent time on loan at the KC Stadium.

A serious knee injury curtailed his appearances for the Championship club until November, when he returned to Nicky Barmby’s selection with a goal on his comeback against Derby County.

Stewart his since gone on to make 13 appearances for the Tigers this campaign, adding one further goal to his tally.

His Hull City team-mate Tom Cairney, also born in England, currently plays for Scotland's Under-21 side.
