Tayside rivals Dundee United and Dundee have both lodged appeals against red cards issued to players during Sunday’s derby game.
United’s Johnny Russell and The Dees’ captain Stephen O’Donnell were both ordered off by referee Calum Murray in the 70th minute at Tannadice.
O’Donnell appeared to react following a late challenge from the Tangerines’ striker, causing a melee, with players from both sides weighing in.
Both players received their marching orders but the clubs have confirmed appeals against the red cards have been sent to the Scottish FA.
A statement on the Dundee United website said: “Dundee United today confirmed they have submitted an appeal to the Scottish FA relating to the red card dismissal of striker Johnny Russell during Sunday's SPL game versus Dundee FC.”
A similar posting on the official Dundee site said: “CEO Scot Gardiner today confirmed that the club is to appeal the sending off of captain Stephen O'Donnell at Tannadice yesterday.”
Player appeals submitted to the SFA compliance officer by 3pm on Monday will be heard on Thursday of the same week.
