Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston has joined the Scottish Football League in calling for a quick decision over who replaces Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.
Both the Pars and Dundee are in contention to take the place which is available after the 12 member clubs rejected an application from Charles Green’s newco.
Top flight sides will choose who will take the Ibrox club’s spot on July 16 but SFL chief executive David Longmuir believes the vacancy could he filled before then.
Asked whether he felt his side should be playing in the SPL next season, Yorkston said: “Well we think we should be but everything is pointing to Dundee but nobody has given us an explanation why.
“We want to find out if and why but I’m told there won’t be a decision for another week.
The East End Park chief is frustrated that both his own team’s preparations, as well as that of Barry Smith’s men have been severely disrupted by the saga.
Yorkston added: “Well Neil Doncaster [SPL chief executive] admitted that whatever team goes to the SPL will be disadvantaged and it is the same for the team that remains in the First Division.
“At the moment we can’t sign players because we don’t know what division we will be in.”
Dundee released a statement earlier this week confirming they wouldn’t take part in a vote on whether a newco Rangers would be allowed into the SFL due to a perceived conflict of interest.
However Yorkston claims his club haven’t been told they must follow the same course of action.
He added: “I asked at the meeting on Tuesday and they said it wasn’t a conflict for Dunfermline so you work that one out.”
