Hearts have signed goalkeeper Peter Enckelman on a short-time deal.

The former St Johnstone shot stopper has joined the club until January.

The Finnish international was given a contract at Tynecastle after back-up goalie Mark Ridgers sustained a knee ligament injury playing for Scotland Under-21s on Tuesday night.

Enckelman, 35, helped the Saints on their run to European qualification last season, and has previously played for Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City.

Speaking to the official Hearts website, Enckelman said he was excited join up with John McGlynn’s team.

He said: "I'm really excited to be back involved and coming to a club like Hearts is great."
