Paulo Sergio is eyeing a run to the Scottish Cup final for his Hearts side, after their comeback win over St Johnstone.

The Edinburgh club looked to be heading out when Murray Davidson found the net for the Saints seven minutes from time.

Jamie Hamill’s penalty in injury time took the match into extra time, where Marius Zaliukas produced the winner for Sergio’s men.

"When you are in the cup, you want your team to win, even if you coach a lower league team, you know if you win one game you can go as far as you want," said Sergio.

"If you respect your opponents, you can always progress. We left a lot of blood and sweat on the pitch against St Johnstone and we are now looking forward to the next challenge."

Hearts now progress to the last eight of the competition, where they will face St Mirren.

Victory over the Buddies would put them in the semi-finals for the first time since 2006, the year the Gorgie side lifted the trophy after beating Gretna in the final.

"We have St Mirren now, they are a very good team and it will be tough," said the Hearts boss.

"The 5-2 game in the league doesn't say anything to me, it will be a good challenge for the team and one we will look forward to facing."
