Hearts have announced that Ugandan international David Obua is to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 2007 South Africa Player of the Year, won during his time at Kaizer Chiefs, will not be offered a contract extension by Hearts.

The rangy midfielder was recruited by Csaba Laszlo, his former manager for the Cranes, in 2008.

After winning a work permit at an Scottish FA appeal, Obua started the season playing at left midfield. He has also turned out for Hearts at left back, centre forward and central midfield.

In 96 appearance for the Tynecastle men, Obua netted six times, including a memorable last minute winner against Edinburgh rivals Hibernian at Easter Road in May 2010.

A spokesman for the club said: “We'd like to thank David for his services to the club during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
