Pat Fenlon charged by SFA following Hampden cup final gesture

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon will be hauled before the Scottish FA for an alleged offensive gesture at the Scottish Cup final.

Fenlon was sent from his technical area by referee Craig Thomson in the closing stages of Hibs’ 5-1 defeat at the hands of Hearts on Saturday, May 19.

Broadcast images appeared to show Fenlon aim a gesture at the Hearts fans, who were taunting the boss and his team on their way to seeing their team lift the silverware.

After the match Fenlon denied making a gesture to the fans, and seemed to say he was displaying frustration with his players.

Fenlon said: “I made a gesture in relation to the way we were playing. We kept giving the ball away cheaply.

“I don’t know what they were singing to be honest. There is a hulluva lot made in relation to the gesture.”

Fenlon will appear before the SFA compliance officer on Thursday, June 14, charged with breaching rule 203, which forbids offensive or insulting behaviour and could be banned from the dugout for the start of next season.

He has until Tuesday, May 29, to respond to the charge.
