Former Hibs captain Ian Murray is sizing up a move to America after bidding farewell to the club he grew up supporting.

Murray’s second spell at Easter Road came to a close at the end of the season as manager Pat Fenlon broke the news that he would not be getting a new contract.

Now the utility man, who turned out for Rangers and Norwich in between his years at Hibs, fancies a shot at playing overseas.

Major League Soccer is believed to be a preferred option for the 31-year-old, who has asking his agent to put out feelers in the States to try and find a club.

Murray, who spent months sidelined in the last campaign with a troublesome hip injury, told the Daily Record: “I’m fit and I’ve still got a lot to offer. I’ve had a couple of phone calls but nothing major yet.

“The world has opened out to footballers in the last ten to 15 years and you now find Scots everywhere. You look at guys like Stuart Duff, who is currently playing in Kazakhstan. Kris Boyd and Steven Smith are in America and Liam Miller left Hibs last year to go and play in Australia.

“I am open to something like that because my little boy isn’t at school yet, so my wife and I can go anywhere we choose with him.”
