Billy Brown is eyeing a move into the managerial hotseat after decades as a number two.

The former Falkirk, Hearts, Bradford and Kilmarnock assistant manager left the same position at Hibernian this week after being told his contract would not be extended.

The move took Brown by surprise after working with Pat Fenlon last season.

He said: “I wanted to go back I thought it was just a matter of getting the contract fixed up but it didn’t work out that way.

“They said they couldn’t afford another wage and cuts had to be made, so I was let go.”

Now the long-term assistant to Jim Jefferies, who has his own backroom staff in place at Dunfermline, fancies a shot at taking on the managerial reigns himself.

Brown just sees one problem with taking on his own team – the lack of jobs in Scotland at the moment.

He said: “When something works in football you’re always reluctant to change it and Jim and I are a good partnership.

“But I have always wanted to be a manager. I thought I was going to get the chancre to fulfil that at Hibs but that didn’t work out.

“I’ve still got ambitions to do that, I’m an ambitious guy and full of enthusiasm so it would be great if that could happen”
