Hibernian have added a striker to their squad ahead of the transfer window closing by securing Darryl Duffy on loan from Bristol Rovers. The 26-year old striker will be at Easter Road for the season after agreeing the switch from the Memorial Stadium.

John Hughes has moves quickly to snap up the former Scotland Under-21 player and Duffy may well be replacing Anthony Stokes with Celtic and Hibs reportedly in discussions over a transfer.

"I am delighted to be joining Hibernian and can't wait to start training with the boys first thing this morning,” Duffy told the club’s official website.

"I obviously know just how big a club Hibernian is, and have been really impressed with the training centre and the completed stadium.

"I know the gaffer well, and the style he wants to play. I'm just very excited to be back in Scotland and am looking forward to playing in the SPL again."

Duffy, who started his career at Rangers, first came to prominence under Hughes’ guidance at Falkirk. After joining in 2005 he was the club’s top scorer as Hughes’ team won promotion to the SPL.

The striker then moved to Hull City but fell out of favour and after loan spells at Hartlepool and Swansea he signed for the Swans permanently in 2007. Duffy spent just one season with the club before moving to Bristol Rovers.

Hughes said he was pleased to be bringing in a player who he knew could deliver for the Easter Road, having worked with him in the past. He backed the forward to be a success during his loan deal and said he could improve in his time in Edinburgh.

"I know Darryl very well and he's everything you want at your football club,” the Hibs manager said.

"He is experienced, but I also think he's still got his best years ahead of him, and will give us more options up front. He loves getting in behind defenders and has scored goals wherever he has played.

"He's a great addition to the squad and I'm delighted he'll be here at Hibernian helping us push on this season."
