Hibernian have confirmed that they will not contest a charge made by the Scottish Football Association against leigh Griffiths and have accepted a two match ban for the player.
Griffiths was served with a Notice of Complaint by the governing body’s compliance officer after he appeared to make an offensive gesture to fans during Hibs’ defeat to St Johnstone on Saturday.
The Edinburgh club said in a statement that they accepted the punishment and a public apology from Griffiths has been broadcast on the club’s website and on YouTube.
The charge was the third brought against the player under the same rule this season. As a result the striker, on loan from Wolves, will miss the club’s next three matches.
Griffiths was already set to miss Hibs’ Scottish Cup match against Kilmarnock but will now sit out the SPL matches against Rangers and Aberdeen.
He will next be available for selection for the home match against Celtic on February 19.
