Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon has said that he is not a fan of the Scottish Football Association’s new disciplinary process after striker Leigh Griffiths was banned for the third time this season.

Griffiths accepted a two-match ban for making an offensive gesture during Hibs’ defeat to St Johnstone after being served with a Notice of Complaint by the SFA’s compliance officer.

Television footage shown at the weekend highlighted the gesture and Fenlon said that he felt such exposure meant that referees were being undermined.

"My straight answer to whether I am in favour of trial by television would certainly be a no," said Fenlon.

"I don't feel it is fair and the process at the moment is all one way - it has to work in favour of the players as well as against them.

"I personally think it's an insult to referees. Let them referee the games, they are not going to get everything right.

"That's the way football has always been, and in my eyes a lot of the changes they are making to football are destroying the game and I don't believe it works."

Griffiths had previously been banned on two occasions for similar occasions and Fenlon said the situation was frustrating and that he had dealt with the player.

"It's driving me mad at the moment, it's something I have to deal with though as there's not much I can do about it,” he admitted.

“It's difficult to be doing without big players like Garry [O'Connor] and Leigh for the game on Saturday.

"We have dealt with Leigh in-house and the situation will remain in-house."
