Billy McKay broke the deadlock for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in what was billed pre-match as attacking fare against St Johnstone.
After Andrew Shinnie's earlier penalty miss, the in-form hosts took the lead with 17 minutes left on the clock.
Ross Draper forced the ball through to McKay in the area, with the English-born striker taking the ball on the bounce and firing across Saints keeper Alan Mannus.
Inverness though failed to hold onto a lead which would have taken them above St Johnstone in the table, with David Robertson grabbing an equaliser in stoppage time.
