Kilmarnock manager ‘really happy’ to complete deal for Jeroen Tesselaar

Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has expressed his delight after Jeroen Tesselaar completed his move to the Rugby Park side.

The Dutch defender, who left St Mirren in May, agreed to join the Ayrshire club on a two-year deal earlier this month.

The 23-year-old passed a medical last week and was present at Garscube as the first-team squad reported for the first day of pre-season training.

Speaking to STV, Shiels said: “We’re really happy to get him on board because we’ve lost Ben Gordon so now we’ve got competition between Rory McKeown and Jeroen.

“I think there were a few teams in for him but we were in early, very early in fact and I think he was impressed with how we play and what we can offer him from a football perspective.”

Meanwhile Killie have made an offer to former Falkirk striker Farid El Alagui after talks last week.

The 27-year-old free agent scored 27 goals in 43 games for the Bairns last season.

On a move for El Alagui, Shiels added: “I haven’t had any word back. I think he was impressed with the stadium, the hotel and everything that we have.

“Hopefully we sold the club to him because that’s what you try to do, all you can do is show people what you have.

“I’m hopeful but I’ve heard there are other clubs in for him.”

El Alagui has also held talks with St Johnstone and English League One side Brentford and the Northern Irishman will allow the player time to make a decision on his future.

He added: “I don’t think it is fair to rush players, I always say to them ‘let’s just give it a week or so’ and give them time to think.”
