Around 150 fans gathered outside Kilmarnock FC's stadium on Tuesday evening to protest against the departure of manager Kenny Shiels.

The supporters met at Rugby Park to demand the resignation of club chairman Michael Johnston following Shiels decision to leave by “mutual agreement” earlier in the day.

Speaking to STV after the announcement, the Killie chairman said: "I can understand why some will be unhappy."

Discussing the decision he said: "I’m not particularly happy making it, it wasn’t made lightly. But it was mutually agreed by Kenny and the club."

The former Northern Irish footballer was promoted to become the club's manager in 2011 following Mixu Paatelainen's departure.

Shiels is backing his former assistant Jimmy Nicholl for the vacant managerial post, and believes current player Garry Hay should be asked to step up to the number two role.
