Kilmarnock midfielder Gary Harkins will undergo a scan on his ankle this afternoon, after sustaining a reoccurrence of a previous injury in training.

The 27-year-old was ruled out for six weeks last month only to make surprise return in his side’s Scottish Cup replay win against his former side Dundee on January 17.

He has since played in the League Cup semi-final win over Ayr United and the 3-0 home SPL loss to Dunfermline.

Last month the player revealed he may have played with a broken ankle for the last four years.

Speaking about his old injury he said: "I was in a plaster-cast for four days, but then I went to the specialist and after they X-rayed it again, he said it was an old fracture that nothing could be done with.

"With the old fracture, the ligament had come off the bone. It was a few years ago when I did it and no-one had noticed.

"I might have done it at Partick because I remember missing a game after I had gone over on my ankle, or at Dundee when I missed another game.

"It's just one of those things when you go over on your ankle and you just think it is sore.”
