Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has backed his team to finish seventh in the SPL despite losing 2-0 to St Mirren.
Goals from Paul McGowan and Steven Thompson leave Saints two points behind Killie with two matches.
Dean Shiels had the chance to bring the hosts back into the game but he saw his spot-kick saved by Craig Samson.
Nevertheless Shiels senior believes his team deserve to end the campaign as best of the rest.
"We are in pole position and I think our performance tonight showed that we deserve to finish seventh," he said.
"This season we have played 43 games and in 29 we haven't lost - that shows our levels of resiliency.
"We owe it to the paying public to continue to put maximum effort into our remaining fixtures and that's exactly what I demand of them."
Despite the penalty miss, Shiels was pleased with his son’s display against Danny Lennon’s men.
"He missed a penalty, but I thought he was outstanding - some of the passes he made were excellent," he added.
