Motherwell have bolstered their defensive option ahead of their Champions League tie with Panathinaikos by signing Simon Ramsden.

The 30-year-old has inked a 12 month deal at Fir Park after training with the Lanarkshire side over the summer.

The former Sunderland stopper worked with Well boss Stuart McCall at Bradford City and can play at right back or centre half.

Well were left short of option in defence this year after the retirement of Stephen Craigan and Tim Clancy left the Steelmen for Hibernian.

Speaking to MFC TV, Ramsden said he already feels at home in claret and amber.

He said: “I went to Portugal with all the lads at the start of the month and that was really good in terms of getting to know everyone as you’re spending 24 hours a day with them all.

“Everyone is making me feel very welcome and it’s nice to get everything sorted. I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
