Motherwell to open talks with James McFadden over a short-term deal

Motherwell will speak to James McFadden about making a playing return to the club in the next 48 hours.

Fir Park boss Stuart McCall has had the former Steelmen talisman training with the team all summer since he was released by Everton.

With the English season due to begin this weekend, McFadden is still without a club and continues to train with the Lanarkshire outfit.

McCall admits he does not know what McFadden’s plan is but said he will look to discuss a short-term deal to turn out in Claret and Amber again with the 29-year-old.

The Well manager said: “Until we have a chat with him I don’t really know what James is thinking.

“I imagine he’s got offers elsewhere far bigger and brighter than ours but he’s been around a long time now so maybe he wants to get his boots on and start playing.

“That’s a chat we’ll aim to have with him over the next day or two.”
