Ryan Stevenson is close to completing a permanent move to Motherwell from Ipswich Town.

STV understands the former Hearts midfielder, who moved to the English Championship in January, has agreed terms to return to the Scottish Premier League.

Stevenson, 27, is likely to link up with his new team-mates upon their return from Europa League play-off round action against Levante on Thursday night.

The club's chief executive, Leeann Dempster, stayed behind in Scotland to conclude the deal as the team flew to Spain.

Stevenson started his career with Chelsea but made his first professional appearance back in Scotland with St Johnstone, where he played 90 times before moving to Ayr United in 2007.

A move to Hearts followed three years later, where he scored 11 times in 67 appearances before leaving for Portman Road.

Stevenson has played twice as a substitute so far this season for Paul Jewell's side.
