Jamie Murphy is in talks with Sheffield United over a move to join the League One side from Motherwell.
The forward was absent from training on Monday to speak to Blades boss Danny Wilson, but his current manager Stuart McCall expects his player to feature in Wednesday's game with Celtic.
The match with the SPL leaders looks likely to be Murphy's last for the Steelmen. McCall though is hedging his bets over whether he will definitely be on his way to Bramall Lane, or heading instead to another club.
"I believe he is in discussions with a club," McCall said.
"He will certainly be playing against Celtic and depending on how discussions go, it looks more than likely that he will move.
"I believe Sheffield United are the club he is possibly speaking to. Who knows, the way he has been playing in the last few months there could be other offers."
Murphy, 23, has spent his entire career to date with Motherwell. He made his competitive debut in April 2007, playing the last 11 minutes of a 1-0 loss at Celtic.
He has went on to play 203 times for the Fir Park side, scoring 46 goals.
