SPL trivia: players who have managed and scored for the same team

Scoring a goal for a team can bring any amount of hero worship, but stepping into management at the same side can be a risky business.

Goalscorers are always revered by supporters, but taking charge of a whole team can often be a far less rewarding task. Suddenly the rise and fall of your team is your responsibility.

This week we are looking at the players who have made that very step during the SPL era. These are players who have scored for an SPL side and managed the very same team.

As ever, we're dealing with the SPL era, which means that the individuals need to have scored and managed in the top flight since 1998/99. We had plenty of guesses suggesting Ally McCoist, Willie Miller, John Robertson, Tommy Burns, Mark McGhee and the like. These individuals scored and managed one team, but not in the SPL era.

So, who are the individuals that have managed this since the start of the Scottish Premier League?

Ivano Bonetti - Dundee (2000-2002)
The Italian had spells at Sampdoria, Juventus and, eh, Grimsby before taking charge of Dundee with his brother Dario in 2000. His stewardship brought with it the likes of Claudio Caniggia and Fabian Caballero, and Bonetti himself scored two goals for the Dens Park club in 2000/01; in a 2-0 win over Aberdeen and a 3-2 win over Kilmarnock.

Craig Brewster - Inverness CT (2004-06; 2007-09)
Brewster was in charge for two spells in the Highlands, scoring 11 times. Interestingly, he didn't manage the feat for Dundee United, having failed to score in four appearances on his return as player/manager.

Gerry Britton - Partick Thistle (2003-05)
Derek Whyte and Britton were confirmed as co-managers of Thistle in 2003, but were unable to save them from relegation. Britton's record as a goal-getter was significantly better though, scoring nine SPL goals for the club.

Billy Dodds - Dundee United (2006)
This is probably the most awkward name to find. Dodds took charge of just one game in a six day caretaker role at Tannadice. Remarkably, he holds a 100% victory ratio at United, defeating Falkirk 2-1 on the 15th January 2006. Dodds scored 39 times for United in the SPL during two spells.

Neil Lennon - Celtic (2010-present)
The current Celtic boss scored three times in the league for the club while a player. Lennon got scored on two different occasions against Dunfermline and also got a goal against Hibernian.

Jim McIntyre - Dunfermline (2007-2012)
The recently departed Pars boss made his debut managerial season in the SPL this year, and had previously managed two goals for the Pars in the SPL before their relegation in 2006/07.

Mixu Paatelainen - Hibernian (2008-09)
The current Finland manager took charge of Hibs for a season, but was also a goalscoring hero for the Easter Road faithful. Paatelainen managed 27 goals for Hibernian in three seasons in the SPL.

Steven Pressley - Hearts (2005)
Falkirk's manager got his first taste of managerial duties when he was appointed joint caretaker manager of Hearts in 2005. He scored 19 goals for Hearts between 1998 and 2006.

Franck Sauzee - Hibernian (2001-02)
The Frenchman is a playing legend at Easter Road, but is less fondly remembered for his managerial spell. Sauzee scored 11 goals for Hibs. He took charge of the team in 2001 but lasted just 15 games, winning just once in a Scottish Cup match against Stranraer.
