Four former Rangers players given provisional playing clearance

Four players who refused to move from Rangers oldco to Sevco Scotland have been given provisional clearance to play for other teams.

Jamie Ness, Steven Whittaker, Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith all refused to move to the newco led by Charles Green under Tupe legislation.

On Friday night PFA Scotland confirmed temporary international clearance had been granted to the four, after Green had claimed his consortium would contest the moves.

The moves are still the subject of arbitration but Fifa has granted the players temporary registration.

PFA Scotland solicitor, Margaret Gribbon, of Bridge Litigation, told Press Association Sport: "I can confirm that Jamie Ness has been granted provisional clearance from FIFA.

"I am delighted about that and expect all other applications pending before FIFA to take the same course."

The Scottish Football Association procedurally cannot complete the international transfer clearance as it has to be signed by all parties. It confirmed that provisional clearance has also been granted to Lafferty, Whittaker and Naismith.

Former Rangers captain Steven Davis also had his move to Southampton contested and it is not clear yet if he has also been given temporary Fifa registration.
