Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu is close to joining English Premier League side Stoke City after agreeing personal terms with the club.

A fee between the two clubs has been agreed and the 26-year-old midfielder will complete the move subject to passing a medical and gaining a work permit.

Ipswich Town had made an offer for the American but he has decided to try his luck with the Potters, who signed Jamie Ness earlier this summer.

Edu joined Rangers in 2008 from Canadian side Toronto FC for a fee of £2.6m. He made 125 appearances for the Glasgow club, scoring 12 goals during his time in Scotland.

However he hasn’t played for Ally McCoist’s side this term after stating he wished to leave the club.

Earlier this week McCoist said he hoped the player’s future would be resolved quickly.
