Ally McCoist has slammed suggestions that his new stars have only joined Division Three Rangers for a bigger wage.
The Ibrox manager is incensed at suggestions his summer captures like Ian Black, Francisco Sandaza and David Templeton have turned down deals at clubs in higher leagues just to earn more money with Rangers.
Speaking to Rangers TV, McCoist said that the club’s huge fanbase were the major attraction for stars and branded comments about players chasing a big pay day as “absolutely ridiculous”.
The Rangers boss said: “They’ve been accused of going for the money and all that stuff, which is absolute nonsense. That’s absolutely ridiculous.
“Even if it was the case, then they’re quite entitled to, because in any other profession you’d look after yourself and your family financially. But there a lot more to it when they come to this club.
“Anybody who would question people who come to this club perhaps weren’t at the game on Sunday, when there were 46,000 reasons.”
McCoist went on to claim that people outside of Rangers were annoyed at how the club has adapted to life in the bottom tier since the old company began the liquidation process under a burden of millions of pounds of debt.
He said: “It’s bizarre, I have noticed that it is as if some section are annoyed at the way our fans have reacted and the way the club has reacted.
“I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and say people outwith the club are a bit surprised. I hope they’re not disappointed.”
