Dean Shiels has warned a new-look Rangers side are still a work in progress as they prepare to face SPL opposition for the first time since taking up a place in the Third Division.
Motherwell visit Ibrox on League Cup duty on Wednesday night as the league leaders in the top flight, while Rangers warmed up with a 4-1 home win over Montrose.
Ally McCoist’s men however are yet to record an away league victory from three attempts and were also eliminated from the Challenge Cup at the hands of Queen of the South last week.
"We are basically a lot of individuals who have been brought together and it's going to take time for us to understand each other's games and strengths and to bring everything together," said Shiels.
"It takes time to build team spirit and a collective. Each game and each training session that goes past, we will look to build on that."
Despite their bottom tier status, Rangers have targeted winning both major cup competitions and Shiels knows they face a stern test from the side who took their place in this season’s Champions League qualifiers.
"We want to keep winning games and this is a cup we want to do well in," added the forward, who won the competition with Kilmarnock last season.
"To do that, we will need to progress on Wednesday. It's going to be very tough.
"They are a very good side. They finished strongly last year and they've had a great start to the season this year so we expect it to be very tough."
