Former Rangers defender David Weir could be handed a playing return by Sheffield United.
The Scot is currently training with the League One club, with their manager, Danny Wilson, saying the 41-year-old has already made a positive impact at the club.
With Weir out of contract, the Blades are free to sign the player outside of the transfer window. Wilson says he will take his time before deciding whether to offer him a deal.
"He has been training with us," Wilson confirmed on Thursday. He has got great experience and still looks fantastic. He wants to keep playing football.
"He is out of contract, so there is no rush. We can wait and see what happens. Everyone is relaxed and honest about it.
"David commands great respect from the players. He brings a calming influence and still has a great football brain."
Weir left Rangers in January, ending his five-year association with the club ahead of the end of his contract in the summer.
Having made 231 appearances for the Ibrox side, the player featured just once for Ally McCoist's team this season, failing to dislodge Dorin Goian and Carlos Bocanegra from the side.
