Stuart Kettlewell benefited from a swift Ross County counter to put his side 2-1 up at Tynecastle.
The midfielder found acres of space on the edge of Hearts' area and, with defenders backing off, found the far corner with a perfectly placed effort.
Kettlewell was the man fouled in the box by Andy Webster to get his side back in the game, with Richard Brittain converting from the spot.
The Staggies though couldn't hold on for their third win of the Scottish Premier League season, with John Sutton netting a 90th minute leveller.
