Ross County defender Gary Miller says he is unsure whether a run in this season’s Scottish Cup would be of benefit or harm to their hopes of winning the First Division.
Derek Adams’ side sit top of the league by five points but face St Mirren on cup business this weekend, as they look to emulate their run to the final in 2010.
Miller, who played for County in their eventual defeat to Dundee United at Hampden, says a similar achievement this season would be great for morale.
But the former Livingston player also concedes it could hinder their efforts to finish top of the First Division.
"I think it [a cup run] would be great for the lads and for our spirit," said Miller. "But I think in the past it has shown it can be too many games, if you want to progress in the league [as well]."
County go into the weekend having gone unbeaten since their exit from the Scottish Communities League Cup at the hands of Celtic back in September.
Miller’s side have racked up 12 wins in their last 15 games since that defeat but the defender insists the pressure is off his team against SPL opposition.
"I think we always fancy ourselves," he said. "We've played a few SPL teams over the years and have faired well against most of them.
"I think St Mirren are a good side. We've seen that they can play football this season. It should be a close game and a good game for the fans."
