Chris Millar has handed St Johnstone an unexpected boost by signing a new one-year contract with the club.

The 29-year-old was expected to leave the club after initially rejecting the offer of a new contract.

Millar had set his sights on a move to Australia after making 132 appearances for the Perth club after moving from Morton in 2008.

However he has now returned to Scotland and was pleased to sign on for one year with the option of another season.

It’s another stage in Steve Lomas’ rebuilding programme at McDiarmid Park with captain Jody Morris, top scorer Francisco Sandaza and fellow striker Cillian Sheridan all departing.

The Northern Irishman has moved quickly to tie up deals for Nigel Hasselbaink, Gregory Tade, Gary Miller, Tam Scobbie and Jonny Tuffey.
