Defender Darren McGregor could make a dramatic return for St Mirren before the split.
The 26-year-old was ruled out for out for up to nine months with torn knee ligaments in August.
However manager Danny Lennon says the former Cowdenbeath player’s recovery is ahead of schedule and he could join in full-time training next month.
St Mirren’s final fixture before the split comes on April 8 against Rangers and Lennon says there’s a chance McGregor may play some part in the club’s season before then.
Danny Lennon said: “Darren McGregor is making very good progress.
"Darren will hopefully be in training with the rest of the boys by the end of this month.
“We may have to hold him back ever so slightly. It’s important first and foremost to get him back to full fitness.
“We’d be delighted if we managed to get Darren back in before the split.”
McGregor damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Dundee United on August 6.
The defender was hurt in a challenge with United’s Gary-Mackay Steven and was replaced with 18 minutes left in the game, having initially returned to the field of play after receiving treatment.
Meanwhile Graham Carey picked up a knock against Inverness CT and is doubtful for Saturday’s cup game against Ross County.
